Guide 5: Sending, Accepting, Rejecting and Countering Swaps

Once you’ve sent a swap, it’s up to the other party to respond before any action is required from you. If you need to cancel a swap for any reason (an item unexpectedly sold in your store, you decided you didn’t like the swap you proposed, etc.) you can go back to the swap by click on My Swaps in your navigation bar, highlighted in red below.

From there, find the swap you want to cancel under Pending Swaps, highlighted in blue and click on it.

Once on the swap page, you can click on Cancel to do exactly that.

Let’s change perspectives. When you receive a swap, what are you going to see? Let’s switch over and act as J3 Gunsmithing for a minute. Once a swap is proposed, both parties will receive an email. The party on the receiving end of the swap proposal will be able to log in and see these options:

As you can see above, J3 Gunsmithing can see the entire swap, along with the message we sent. He has the option to add a message here as well, but the important buttons are along the bottom.

ACCEPT – This button will accept the swap exactly as it appears. If you make changes to the swap, you’ll no longer be able to Accept it, you’ll need to use…

COUNTER – The swap is editable on this page—meaning that you can add or change elements of a swap, after which point you can COUNTER the offer by clicking this button. We wouldn’t suggest changing the item they originally wanted from you unless you talk about it.

DECLINE – If a swap just isn’t for you, you can just decline it.

CANCEL – Much like DECLINE, this option just stops the swap entirely, but we recommend using it with the message feature to let the other dealer know why you need to cancel the swap. One possible reason—an item sold from your store and isn’t available anymore.

The process above continues back and forth for as long as is needed for both parties to accept the swap. Once you propose a swap, you’ve agreed to that trade. For what happens after a swap is agreed, to, we recommend our next guide.
